Cassatt Insured Group hosted 25th Annual Risk Management & Patient Safety Symposium

(MALVERN, Pa. April 17, 2023) Cassatt Insured Group, a captive insurance group for hospitals, physicians and other healthcare organizations, hosted its 25th Annual Risk Management and Patient Safety Symposium on April 17th for member hospitals.

This year’s theme focused on various perspectives on healthcare intelligence, from the large scale, globally transformational opportunities of AI to meaningful, intelligent actions we can all take to decrease risk and improve the safety and well-being of our patients and ourselves. This theme was determined based on feedback from previous Cassatt symposiums and other educational programs, as well as the experience and knowledge of current topics from Cassatt’s Risk Management Advisory Group education committee and staff.

During this year’s Symposium, we heard from a group of experienced speakers from the healthcare environment. The keynote session looked at Chat-GPT and AI risks in healthcare. Other sessions included topics such as systemic safety, improving performance with the use of emotional intelligence, the 2 sides of a medical malpractice suit, and the need for critical thinking in healthcare.

The target audience included: Cassatt member hospitals’ physicians, nurses, clinical and administrative leadership and staff, hospital attorneys, patient safety officers, quality and risk managers, educators, human resource professionals, and other healthcare professionals interested in risk management and safety.

The lectures for the symposium were:

  • Chat-GPT/AI Risks in Healthcare – Chad Brouillard, Esquire
  • Engineering System Safety: How Safety Intelligence Can Inform Systemic Patient Safety Initiatives – Trevor Hall, MSc, BSN
  • Emotional Intelligence: Insights and Practices to Improve Performance – Mitchell Kusy, PhD
  • Medical Malpractice Suits: A View From Both Sides – David Krolikowski, Esquire & Paul Troy, Esquire
  • Critical Thinking: Ability, Skill and NECESSITY in Healthcare – Faith Roberts, MSN, RN, NEA-BC

The symposium was presented in joint sponsorship with Jefferson Abington Hospital.
